Missed this a few weeks ago, but it’s always a great time for a heaping helping of the 2021 eDiscovery Market Size Mashup that Rob Robinson compiles and presents on his Complex Discovery site each year! Based on the estimates for this year, make that an extra helping! 🙂
This year, Rob released his worldwide eDiscovery services and software overview for 2021 to 2026 on November 21st, a few days later than last year (but still plenty timely!).
This is the tenth(!) year I’ve covered the “mashup” (and the second year on eDiscovery Today). Taken from a combination of public market sizing estimations as shared in leading electronic discovery publications, posts, data points and discussions (sources listed on Complex Discovery), the 2021 eDiscovery Market Size Mashup shares general market sizing estimates for the software and services area of the electronic discovery market for the years between 2021 and 2026.
Here are some highlights (based on the estimates from the compiled sources on Rob’s site):
- The eDiscovery Software and Services market is expected to grow an estimated 7.60% Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) per year from 2021 to 2026 from $13.10 billion to $18.89 billion per year. Services will comprise approximately 62% of the market and software will comprise approximately 38% by 2026. The $13.10 billion for 2021 represents a growth of $2.21 billion over 2020! Pandemic schmandemic!
- The eDiscovery Software market is expected to grow at an estimated 10.70% CAGR per year from $4.32 billion in 2021 to $7.18 billion in 2026. In 2021, software comprises 33.0% of the market and, by 2026, approximately 70% of the eDiscovery software market is expected to be “off-premise” – a.k.a. cloud and other Software-as-a-Service (SaaS)/Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS)/Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) solutions.
- The eDiscovery Services market is expected to grow at an estimated 5.93% CAGR per year from 2021 to 2026 from $8.78 billion to $11.71 billion per year. The breakdown of the services market by 2026 is expected to be as follows: 62% review ($11.71 billion), 19% processing and 19% collection ($3.59 billion apiece).
A couple of other notable stats:
- The U.S. constitutes approximately 64% of worldwide eDiscovery software and services spending in 2021, with that number decreasing to approximately 58% by 2026.
- Governmental and Regulatory spending on eDiscovery (audits, investigations, and litigation) is estimated to constitute approximately 46% of worldwide eDiscovery software and services spending in 2021, with that number decreasing to approximately 41% by 2026.
