OpenAI’s DevDay, their first-ever developer conference in San Francisco, happened yesterday and it was filled with key announcements.
Here are some of the most notable announcements from OpenAI’s DevDay yesterday:
- OpenAI is releasing a platform for making custom versions of ChatGPT for specific use cases — no coding required. In the coming weeks, these AI agents, which OpenAI is calling GPTs, will be accessible through the GPT Store. GPTs will be available to paying ChatGPT Plus subscribers and OpenAI enterprise customers.
- OpenAI announced a new, more powerful GPT-4 Turbo. Currently available by passing gpt-4-1106-preview in the API, GPT-4 Turbo will also “see” more data, with a 128K context window, which OpenAI says is “equivalent to more than 300 pages of text in a single prompt.”
- The knowledge cutoff dates for both GPT-3.5 and GPT-4.0 have been extended. For GPT-3.5, the cutoff date has been increased to January 2022 from September 2021. And the cutoff date for GPT-4 Turbo is April 2023.
- OpenAI announced a new API, the Assistants API, that it characterizes as a step toward helping developers build “agent-like experiences” within their apps. Using the Assistants API, OpenAI customers can build an “assistant” that has specific instructions, leverages outside knowledge and can call OpenAI generative AI models and tools to perform tasks. Use cases range from a natural language-based data analysis app to a coding assistant or even an AI-powered vacation planner.
- One hundred million people are using ChatGPT on a weekly basis, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced yesterday. Wow.
