How to Keep Pace with Change for Generative AI in Legal: eDiscovery Trends

How to Keep Pace with Change

What do you need to know about how to keep pace with change for generative AI in legal? This blog post from Relativity shows you how!

In the post titled Generative AI in Legal: The Basics of How to Keep Pace with Change (written by Celia O’Brien and available here), Celia starts with a basic list of relevant definitions, including AI, GenAI, large language model (LLM), natural language processing (NLP) and reinforcement learning.

With those basics out of the way, Celia notes that, when it comes to adapting to change, “legal professionals can be seen as a bit stuck in the mud” – citing reluctance to embrace online legal research tools a couple of decades ago and technology-assisted review (TAR), which has been around since before 2012. She also notes:

“Now, no amount of skepticism or defiance can ignore the relentless knocking of AI—and more specifically, generative AI—on your door. While, a few years ago, you might’ve asked if we would adopt it, now it’s a question of when. The legal industry and the world at large are being revolutionized by the many forms of this deep-learning technology. We’re seeing AI assistants like ChatGPT, Copilot, et cetera, help in the daily completion of tasks. Specialized AI solutions for legal are here too, created to be fit for purpose, specifically catering toward e-discovery and other use cases. Using natural language processing, these tools enable even the less tech-savvy lawyers to interact with large language models more intuitively and see their impact quickly—and the results are making waves.”

She also notes: “Soon, you’ll need generative AI just to stay in the game.” Couldn’t agree more!
