Time for another thought leader interview on eDiscovery Today! This time, I’m interviewing Alexis Mitchell, Senior AI Consultant at Syllo!
As I mentioned, Alexis Mitchell is the new Senior AI Consultant at Syllo (here is the press release announcing her hiring) and is an accomplished professional with over 25 years of experience in data science and technology. In addition to her new role at Syllo, Alexis also serves as Principal Data Scientist and Board Member at The Wetzel Foundation. Her previous roles include Director of Advanced Technology at a major legal technology provider, Director of Linguistics & Customer Success at a risk and compliance technology company, Principal Data Scientist at several leading legal technology companies, as well as various senior positions at other organizations, contributing to eDiscovery and data analysis initiatives. Alexis’s career began at the Linguistic Data Consortium with a focus on project coordination and linguistic analysis. Educationally, Alexis holds a BA in Linguistics from the University of Pennsylvania.
Alexis and I covered several topics, ranging from why she decided to join the Syllo team and what her new role will entail, how her expertise in linguistics relates to the use of AI at Syllo, how traditional TAR 1.0 and 2.0 models differ from the linguistic approach she is helping Syllo to achieve, and why that distinction is important, the differences she sees in how attorneys are able to use AI in their cases as compared to how they can use TAR, the biggest gap she sees in how traditional AI tools handle data compared to how a lawyer thinks and builds a case, why it has been so hard for firms to carry insights from one case to the next, how she sees technology helping firms turn their past work into a long-term strategic asset, and more!
