I’m a stats aficionado, so when I saw this post on Rob Robinson’s ComplexDiscovery site covering 2022 Cyber Attack Statistics, Data, and Trends provided by Parachute Technology, I had to cover it too!
Rob’s post (An Evolving Threat Landscape? 2022 Cyber Attack Statistics, Data, and Trends), provides stats in several categories, including: General Cyber Attack Stats, Biggest Cyber Attacks and Data Breaches, Cyber Attack Stats by Industry, Small Business Statistics, Cybersecurity Statistics, Managed Service Provider Cyber Attack Statistics, COVID-19 Statistics and Cyber Attack FAQs.
Here are a few of my favorite stats:
- Cybercrime costs the global economy about 1 trillion — 50% more than that predicted in 2018. Also, it is more than 1% of the global GDP.
- The average cost of a data breach was $2.45 million for organizations with fully deployed security automation, as compared to $6.03 million for those lagging behind in security automation.
- 56% of organizations do not have a cyber incident response plan. And only 32% of the remaining 44% actually think that their plan is effective.
- 70% of office workers admit to using their work devices for personal tasks.
- 69% are using personal laptops or printers for work activities.
- Almost one-third (30%) of remote workers have let someone else use their work device.
- 34% of organizations suffered from security incidents involving malware last year.
- Damages incurred from ransomware amount to $20 billion in 2021, which is 57 times higher than the damages in 2015.
- The average ransom paid for organizations increased from $115,123 in 2019 to $312,493 in 2020, a 171% year-over-year increase.
- About 5% of all emails are phishing.
That’s just a small sampling of the tons of stats on Rob’s post of 2022 Cyber Attack Statistics and he also provides a link to the original report from Parachute Technology as well. Very enlightening, even if you’re not a stats aficionado like me!
