Solution Lab: 5 Questions Every Legal Ops Professional Needs To Ask Their CISO in the Age of Gen AI (Pinyon Ballroom 1)

In rapid change, cross-functional expertise and collaboration are critical; this is especially true for legal departments in the age of generative AI. Legal ops professionals must extend beyond the legal department and partner with the CISO to educate themselves about the enterprise-wide risks and benefits of AI and generative AI.

How can a legal department leverage the benefits of generative AI, but protect against risk? What foundational questions do department legal ops ask to protect the company, its reputation, and its data in the age of AI?

This session is designed as a unique fireside chat with a leading expert in information security, Alissa “Dr. Jay” Abdullah. Dr. Jay is Mastercard’s deputy chief security officer and former deputy chief information officer at the White House, where she helped modernize the Executive Office. She will address various topics for any legal department evaluating its AI strategy, including general AI risks, bias in AI, privacy implications, ethics, and AI governance.

Most importantly, she’ll discuss what information the CISO needs from the legal department and what data the legal department can provide for the CISO’s office.

Speakers: Bernadette Bulacan, Chief Evangelist, Icertis, Alissa ‘Dr. Jay’ Abdulla, Deputy Chief Security Officer, Mastercard.

12:00 PM – 12:30 PM

Do You Really Need That New Technology for Your Legal Department? (Juniper Ballroom 2)

It’s tempting for legal executives to turn to new technology to help manage growing challenges in optimizing the legal department. The reality is that buying new technology may not always save the department time and money and could potentially create a host of new problems. Before considering a new technology, Chief Legal Officers should take a fresh, holistic look at the department’s existing processes to identify potential friction and gaps that could slow the pace of business.

During this panel discussion, we will hear from a diverse group of legal professionals who will share insights and essential strategies for how to stay ahead of the curve in today’s new legal technology paradigm and to know when and how to buy new tools.

Topics covered:

Speakers: Rich Cohen, Managing Director, Protiviti, Arun Mistry, Vice President, Legal Operations, Providence St. Joseph Health, Samantha-Anne Nadolny, Vice President, Associate General Counsel, Select Water Solutions.

In addition to the Tuesday CGI 2024 sessions, there’s a variety of networking events, happy hours and receptions. The full schedule is available here. But remember, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas – unless I report it! 😉
