OpenAI recently announced conversational voice models called GPT-Live. I thought “why not interview it?”. So, here’s my interview with ChatGPT.
I covered the announcement on the Kitchen Sink week before last. My son Carter has already been using the feature quite a bit on the ChatGPT app on his phone. So, I thought I would try it, but instead of just playing around with the feature, I thought I would “interview” ChatGPT about key eDiscovery and AI related topics.
So, I identified a few questions to ask, opened the ChatGPT app on my phone, hit the button to start the conversation and proceeded from there. Apparently, my ChatGPT voice is a proper English woman that sounds (sort of) like Julie Andrews. At least “she” doesn’t sound like Scarlett Johansson. 😉
After exchanging pleasantries (and reminding the AI model that it can’t be doing well or badly when I ask it how it’s doing because it’s just an AI model), I asked the model if I could conduct an interview related to eDiscovery, AI and other types of technology. I also told ChatGPT that I wanted to “discuss general trends, considerations, and challenges, but not mention any providers by name”.
I also asked it what model it was and it responded that it was “ChatGPT running on GPT-5.5” and then said it was “ready whenever you want to start the interview”.
In my interview with ChatGPT, I proceeded to ask questions related to:
- The biggest eDiscovery related challenges that legal professionals are facing today;
- Types of modern data that eDiscovery professionals should be focusing on, and how AI generated data factors into that discussion;
- The biggest misperceptions about AI and generative AI;
- What the legal profession needs to do to reduce the number of filings containing AI hallucinations;
- How the use of AI in eDiscovery platforms differs from the use of AI in public AI models like ChatGPT;
- The biggest mistakes that organizations make when implementing an AI solution to support business needs, including needs related to eDiscovery;
- Best practices ChatGPT recommends for ensuring the quality of work product when using generative AI capabilities within an eDiscovery solution; and
- What ChatGPT thinks the landscape of eDiscovery solutions looks like in five years, and how AI will factor into that future landscape.
A couple of observations:
- I expected the verbose ChatGPT I’m used to when I submit written prompts and get written responses. Conversational ChatGPT is much briefer and probably not geared up to be “interviewed” like I did.
- As a result, most of the answers were a bit light on details. Perhaps some of them warranted following up on, but I decided to mostly stick to the questions I planned to ask in advance to keep things moving.
- I say “so” a lot. 😲
So (there I go again!), I wouldn’t exactly call this a “thought leader” interview; in fact, ChatGPT was a lot less informative than it normally is when I’m submitting similar questions in written form. Maybe that should be the next experiment for comparison purposes? 🤔
