Consilio’s Acquisition of Legility is the Latest eDiscovery Transaction: eDiscovery Trends

It’s not too late for at least one more merger, acquisition or investment (M&A+I) in eDiscovery! Consilio’s acquisition of Legility, a leading global legal services provider, is the latest eDiscovery transaction.

According to the announcement, Legility will enhance Consilio’s resources with a deepened breadth of new talent in managed review, flexible legal talent, enterprise legal solutions, eDiscovery, and investigation & litigation support to corporations and law firms of all sizes. Additionally, Legility gains access to Consilio’s Complete suite of solutions and the scaled experience of the secure global infrastructure spanning the world to serve cross-border matters efficiently.

“Legility has a proven track record of creating excellent predictive and automated enterprise-wide legal driven processes that blend analytics, purpose-built workflows, and information-driven process improvements that help legal teams achieve operational success,” said Andy Macdonald, CEO of Consilio. “This acquisition unlocks greater scale and resources while aligning with our strategy to invest in differentiated solutions that result in a consistently exceptional client experience.”

“Combining with Consilio is greatly beneficial for both our clients and our team. The broader team will be part of a larger community of experts and have increased resources and capabilities at their disposal to address client challenges across information governance, eDiscovery, and legal operations,” said Barry Dark, CEO of Legility. “An important consideration for Legility was the shared view on where the market is going, and we are particularly interested in expanding together what we can provide to clients in non-eDiscovery legal and compliance domains.”

By my count, Consilio’s acquisition of Legility makes 52 M&A+I transactions so far this year, per Rob Robinson’s running list here on Complex Discovery. Rob correctly notes that this transaction was “Reported in Moody’s Investor Service Announcement” back in November. So, the official announcement that the acquisition has closed happened this week, but the transaction has been in the works for a while!

So, what do you think of Consilio’s acquisition of Legility?  Who will be next?  Please share any comments you might have or if you’d like to know more about a particular topic.
