Thursday CGI 2023 Sessions and Events: Legal Technology Trends

The CLOC Global Institute conference (CGI) continued yesterday with a full day of sessions and events! Here are the Thursday CGI 2023 sessions and events to check out!

Corporate Legal Operations Consortium’s conference – CLOC 2023 – has been conducted May 15th through May 18th. It will be held at the Bellagio in Las Vegas and is a fully in-person event this year. Here’s the detailed schedule for the conference (on which I generated a word cloud of topics a couple of weeks ago).

With that in mind, here’s a list of the Thursday CGI 2023 sessions and events of note for this final half day that you may want to check out, along with the location (all times PT):

10:15 AM – 10:45 AM

Career Center: Unlock Your Legal Ops Career: Ask Me Anything with Industry Veterans! (Renoir 1)

In this session, you will get an opportunity to ask industry veterans about their careers in the legal industry. Our esteemed panel of experts will share their experiences, insights, and tips on how to build a successful career in and even beyond legal ops. Whether you’re a seasoned legal operation professional or just starting in the field, this open discussion session is an excellent opportunity for legal operations professionals to gain valuable insights into the industry and network with peers and experts in the field.

Speakers: Adam Becker, Director of Legal Operations, Cockroach Labs; Marla Crawford, General Counsel, Cimplifi; Priya Lele, Director, Legal Operations, EY; Mateo Sanchez, Head of Legal Operations, Outside.

Solution Lab: How a Single Solution Flexes to the Multi-Faceted Needs of a Team’s Discovery Process (Bellagio 3 & 4)

An urgent legal matter hits your desk and the clock starts ticking. Your team begins a complicated process of juggling multiple tools, not all meant for discovery, in order to meet a tight deadline. However, to enhance your team’s success, there’s a simpler way to use better technology.  And with Everlaw,  you get just that — a fit-for-purpose, unified platform that flexes to the multi-faceted discovery needs of in-house legal teams so they can get back to focusing on what they do best – practicing law.

Join us to see how Everlaw helps legal teams take control of their discovery process to drive results with less time and more confidence.

In this session, you will learn how Everlaw can be used to:

  • Easily deploy legal holds to preserve relevant information from key custodians
  • Collect data securely through the cloud from common collaboration applications, like Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Slack, and conduct early case assessment and/or review data
  • Leverage machine learning to connect key pieces of evidence from different data sources
  • Build a full report and timeline to share the results of a legal matter with key stakeholders
  • Seamlessly collaborate with internal and external partners

Speaker: Chris Rauen, Senior Solutions Architect, Everlaw.

Solution Lab: From Burnout to Breakthrough: Before & After No-Code Automation Implementation (Bellagio 7)

Today’s market leaders are turning to no-code workflow automation to streamline tasks without IT, project committees, or outsourcing. But the other (often overlooked) outcome is also combatting workplace burnout with self-service efficiency. When employees are empowered with tools to get rid of bottlenecks and manage workloads better — and can get people to actually use them — legal departments can transform their employee satisfaction and in turn, output.

Tune in as legal ops leaders share their best practices for implementing no-code automation to bring your department from burnout to breakthrough, including insights from their own user adoption stories on what to expect after go-live and how to maximize adoption.

After this session, attendees will walk away with an inside look at:

  • How to optimize technology 3-months, 6-months, 12-months, and 2-years after go-live
  • Tips for identifying which processes are contributing to burnout & kickstarting automation in your department for quick wins
  • How to quantify your work and progress

Speakers: Brian McGovern, Executive Director of Corporate Legal and Claims, Mitratech; Julie Richer, Director of Legal Operations, Bath & Body Works, Inc.; Jessica Vander Ploeg, Vice President, Legal Operations, OpenText.

11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

CLOC Talk Live (Tower Ballroom)

Speaker: Jennifer McCarron, Director of Legal Operations & Technology, Netflix.

It’s been a great conference with great education and networking opportunities! As for the other stuff, remember, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas! 😉
