Ride the Lightning Bids Farewell

Sad to hear this, but I understand that all good (and great) things come to an end. Ride the Lightning, the terrific blog from Sharon Nelson of Sensei Enterprises, is ending.

As Sharon wrote in her farewell post: “Hard to believe, but my first Ride the Lightning post was on July 31, 2007. It’s been a long run, but it feels like the right moment to stop blogging. My partner/husband John Simek and I are still the President and Vice President of Sensei Enterprises but looking to wind down a bit . . .

As all bloggers know, maintaining a blog is hard work!

I sure can’t leave without thanking my readers. You have been remarkably kind and generous in your praise for RTL. I was delighted, many years ago, when the ABA named RTL in its ‘Top 100 Blawgs.’

Thanks to all of you who have passed stories my way or written to thank me for a particular post. I’ve had a lot of kind notes over the years – please know they were all appreciated.

It’s a fast moving world and I’ll be happy to slow down just a little.

Wishing all of you the very best life has to offer!”

Sixteen years is a long time! For nearly thirteen of those years, Ride the Lightning has been a go-to resource for my own blogging (which is why it’s one of the blogs listed in the “Sites I Follow” list in the right sidebar of this site). I’ve gone to Sharon’s coverage of a variety of legal tech topics (many focused on cybersecurity and data privacy issues and trends) more times than I can count when I need a story to cover – it has been a daily blogger’s dream resource!

I’m sorry to see Ride the Lightning go, but glad that Sharon and John aren’t fully “riding off into the sunset” yet and hope that they will keep doing great things in our industry, including their excellent Digital Detectives podcast series, on which I’ve been honored to be a guest several times, including earlier this month, where we discussed generative AI (and had a lot of fun doing it)!

Thanks, Sharon and Ride the Lightning, for sixteen years of great educational content for our industry!

So, what do you think? Please share any comments you might have or if you’d like to know more about a particular topic.
