CLOC Released New Core 12

CLOC Released New Core 12 Maturity Assessment Playbook: Legal Operations Best Practices

The 2024 CLOC CGI conference starts today! In advance of the conference, CLOC released a new core 12 maturity assessment playbook!

The 2024 CLOC Global Institute (CGI) conference is being conducted today through May 9, at the ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, after being held at the Bellagio the last several years.

Today, the event is getting started with a few pre-event activities and the Opening Regional Reception this evening. As a result, while there aren’t any sessions today to report on, the Corporate Legal Operations Consortium (CLOC) released a new core 12 maturity assessment playbook on Friday to kick off the conference in a big way!

The Core 12 Maturity Assessment Playbook – a Guide to Improving Legal Operations is available to download in an accessible, digital format as a member benefit on the cloc.org website. This playbook provides a structured framework for assessing and enhancing operational maturity across twelve critical areas aligned with the CLOC Core 12.

The playbook is designed to guide legal operations professionals through a comprehensive process of evaluating their current operational status, setting objectives, and implementing strategies to progress through four stages of maturity. This approach is designed to help legal departments establish clear, actionable goals and measure their progress effectively.

In 2016, CLOC defined 12 functional competencies as requirements for sustained legal operations excellence and a legal operations maturity framework that described four phases of process and technology maturity. These competencies became what we know today as the CLOC Core 12.

For each of the 12 functional competencies in the CLOC Core 12, the playbook provides an assessment of what an organization does that is: Reactive, Emerging, Developing and Leading (in terms of traits and recommendations across several areas). As an example of one of the functional competencies, the playbook provides an assessment for Business Intelligence of each of those levels for Strategy, Data Requirements, Datasets & Data Models, Analytics and Reporting. The areas differ for each functional competency.

I’m still working my way through the playbook, but it looks impressive!

To get access to it, CLOC members will receive a unique code to claim their playbook, which can be accessed from a computer, eReader, tablet, or mobile device. For everyone else, the playbook will be available for purchase starting May 15.

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas – except when I’m reporting on it! 😉 Look for previews and highlights for the 2024 CLOC Global Institute conference each day this week!
