That’s a catchy title if ever I saw one! In his latest video on the eDiscovery Channel, Tom O’Connor “interviews” the AI (i.e., NotebookLM).
Tom sets up the interview with a blog post on his Techno Gumbo blog (Open The Pod Bay Door HAL …. Tom O “Interviews” a Google Notebook LM Robot, available here), where he notes that, despite not being on the “AI bandwagon”, “NotebookLM is a fascinating AI tool that caused me to say ‘wow’ for the first time in years about a new technology. Why? Because it does something innovative that, although early in the development cycle, shows great promise in working with electronic documents.”
As Tom notes, it summarizes and analyzes and allows you to make queries and make notes to those summaries. But it also generates an audio “discussion” about the material you summarize, with two AI “moderators” (more on that here) AND it allows you to interrupt the moderators and ask questions.
Tom pointed it to Ralph Losey’s latest blog post comparing ChatGPT to Gemini and DeepSeek (Breaking New Ground: Evaluating the Top AI Reasoning Models of 2025, available here), which he loaded into NotebookLM, which generated an informative summary, as well as a 33+ minute audio file of the two AI “moderators” discussing Ralph’s post (which Tom notes that Ralph calls the “Gemini Twins”).
So, where’s the part where Tom O’Connor “interviews” the AI? 🤔
Tom’s “interview” is available on his eDiscovery Channel here. In the almost 12-minute video, he discussed the process to load up Ralph’s article, then (after a glitchy moment from NotebookLM the first time out) launched the AI “moderator” discussion and proceeded to “join” the discussion and asked a couple of questions along the way, which the two “moderators” proceeded to address. He also joined the discussion to correct the AI’s pronunciation of Ralph’s last name, but the pronunciation remained a bit “loosey-goosey”. 🤣 Listen to it, and you’ll see what I mean. 😁
Tom notes some drawbacks in his blog post, and you’ll certainly notice them too. Still, as Tom notes, it’s “an exciting start to what promises to be a richly featured product.”
So, what do you think? Have you ever “interviewed” an AI model? Please share any comments you might have or if you’d like to know more about a particular topic.
