We’re now less than a week away from this year’s ILTACON, which starts Sunday, August 10th! Here’s the ILTACON 2025 Word Cloud to give you a sense of the primary topics being discussed!
ILTACON 2025 will be conducted August 10 through 14 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, MD, which is outside of Washington DC.
As I like to do for conferences like this, I took this year’s detailed agenda (linked here) and ran the session titles and descriptions through a word cloud generator. I then reviewed the first cut of it and removed some obvious words from the list: legal, session, technology, learn, join and takeaways. I probably could have removed some other obvious words as well but didn’t want to go too far with it. The ILTACON 2025 Word Cloud shown above is the result I got.
Here are some notable terms that occur frequently:
- “AI” is the top occurring word at 167 times, which is more than 100 times more than last year’s 62 times! “That escalated quickly!” When you add another 13 times for “GenAI” and another 4 times for “artificial intelligence”, that’s 184 total times! That’s even more than 163 times for “legal” at a legal technology conference!
- Taking out “legal” and “session leaves “data” as the next top occurring meaningful word at 100 times, which is still considerably more than last year’s 63 times.
- Those terms were followed by “firms” (77 times), and “tools” (64 times), then “management” (57 times), then “strategies” and “insights” (52 times each).
- “eDiscovery” occurs 16 times, “e-discovery” occurs another 4 times and “discovery” occurs once for a total of 21 times combined. That’s a big drop from last year’s 37 times total.
- On the other hand, “security” occurs a whopping 44 times (nearly three times last year’s total of 15 times) and “cyber” (either by itself or as part of another word like “cybersecurity”) occurs another 15 times. Wow.
- “litigation” occurs 13 times (compared with 9 last year), while “support” occurs 34 times (so, many of the “support” occurrences are not “litigation support”, which occurs 7 times overall).
- “governance” occurs 25 times (nearly four times the 7 times it occurred last year), ten of which occur in “information governance”.
- “privacy” only occurs 6 times (which is still double the 3 times it appeared last year).
Hopefully, the ILTACON 2025 Word Cloud gives you some sense of what’s being covered at this year’s ILTACON – way, way more sessions related to AI, fewer sessions related to eDiscovery, a big jump in sessions for cybersecurity, and information governance, comparable numbers for litigation support, and (once again) hardly any sessions on privacy.
I’ll be covering the conference as press again this year and I’m excited to be a panelist in the session From Reactive to Proactive: Building a Litigation Response Playbook on Monday, August 11th at 4pm. I’ll be presenting along with Ross Dubinsky, Managing Director at Harbor! Join us to not only learn best practices for building a litigation response playbook, but also to receive several useful checklists and forms to start building your own playbook!
I’ll highlight that session and a few other notable sessions in a preview tomorrow. Stay tuned!
