Sedona Conference Working Group Series Veteran Timothy Opsitnick Assumes Executive Director Post

The Board of Directors of The Sedona Conference® is pleased to announce that Timothy M. Opsitnick will assume the position of Executive Director, effective April 8, 2026. Opsitnick is a recognized thought leader in the areas of electronic discovery, cybersecurity, data privacy, and computer forensics, with over 25 years’ experience as a volunteer with The Sedona Conference Working Group Series, including Groups 1, 6, and 11. He has served as a member of The Sedona Conference Leadership Council, Technology Resource Panel, and Working Group 1 Steering Committee, and joined The Sedona Conference Board of Directors in 2024. He is also an experienced business leader, most recently serving as Executive Vice President and General Counsel for Technology Concepts & Design, Inc. (TCDI), which acquired the company that he founded in 2000 in 2016. “We are delighted that Tim has agreed to take the helm at The Sedona Conference,” said Sedona Conference Board Chair Rob Sterne of the DC-based law firm of Sterne Kessler Goldstein & Fox. “He has the talent and experience to raise Sedona to a new level in our mission to move the law forward in a reasoned and just way.”

“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve The Sedona Conference and to contribute my legal and business experience to advancing its important mission,” said Opsitnick. “My connection to Sedona began nearly three decades ago when I worked with its founder, Richard Braman. His passion for the Conference’s mission—and the continued dedication of the leaders who succeeded him—left a lasting impression and inspired my long-standing commitment to the organization.”

Looking to the future, Opsitnick added that “I look forward to advancing Sedona’s impact on the next generation, developing principles and best practices that bring clarity, balance, and insight to how the legal system engages with an increasingly digital and interconnected world.” Opsitnick will succeed Kenneth Withers, who became the Acting Executive Director in June 2024, upon the untimely passing of Craig Weinlein. Speaking for the Board, Chair Rob Sterne praised Withers’ leadership. “Ken had already spent a long and distinguished career as Sedona’s Deputy Executive Director, but his service as Acting Executive Director went above and beyond. Under his leadership, The Sedona Conference expanded the membership and strategic role of our Board of Directors, initiated a new Working Group on AI and the Law, published 15 Working Group Commentaries, established a peer review process for Journal articles, and enlarged our international profile. The Board and the entire Sedona Conference community are truly grateful for Ken’s service.”

The search for a new Executive Director was led by Sedona Conference Board member and retired U.S. Magistrate Judge Hildy Bowbeer of Minnesota, who worked closely with an outside executive search consultant to design and execute an aggressive and transparent process. “It was a difficult decision,” said Judge Bowbeer. “We had several truly outstanding candidates. But Tim’s combination of business experience and long-time dedication to Sedona made him stand out.”
