Ballard Spahr Expands AI Adoption With Firm-Wide Rollout of Syllo Litigation Agent

Ballard Spahr has launched a firm-wide rollout of Syllo’s unified Litigation AI and Litigation Agent platform, the law firm announced, extending its use of advanced AI capabilities across the entire litigation life cycle and to staffing and pricing models for client matters.

Ballard Spahr was among the first law firms to adopt agentic document review for complex litigation, initially to accelerate review timelines and reduce eDiscovery costs.

“The recent rollout is an advancement beyond eDiscovery,” said Jason Leckerman, chair of Ballard Spahr’s Litigation Department of more than 400 lawyers. “Across every litigation practice group, matter, and stage of a case, our collaboration with Syllo can benefit clients by putting the power of AI to work for them.”

Ballard Spahr will leverage Syllo’s Litigation Agent to offer clients more efficient service from eDiscovery through trial, with the most advanced litigation AI capabilities woven directly into case workflows. By unifying case management, eDiscovery, legal research, and analysis in a single environment, Litigation Agent can accelerate the pace with which the firm delivers results. Syllo worked closely with Ballard Spahr lawyers and the firm’s technology innovation professionals to deploy platform capabilities to best fit client needs.

“In addition to increased case management efficiency, Syllo’s Litigation Agent enables us to offer greater client value and pricing predictability,” said Thomas W. Hazlett, a Ballard Spahr litigation partner who oversees the firm’s eDiscovery and Data Management Group. “We are already offering clients fixed-fee options based on completion of litigation tasks rather than hours, and we anticipate that this firm-wide adoption of Syllo will help us offer this to even more clients.”

The platform’s benefits extend across industries and matter types. Security is the paramount priority, and robust governance protocol is a hallmark. Ballard Spahr lawyers will continue to oversee the work, with Syllo’s use tailored to applicable court rules, client guidelines, and the firm’s information-security and responsible AI standards.
