The International Legal Technology Association (ILTA) released the full ILTA 2026 Technology Survey Results this weekend. Here are a few highlights.

It’s a bigger report than ever at a whopping 489(!) total pages, with a 11-page Executive Summary, over forty pages more than last year’s 445 pages for the report, but lower than last year’s 13 pages for the summary.

This year’s survey reports the input of 508 firms representing over 139,661 attorneys and approximately 275,003 total users. As you can imagine with a 489-page report, there are several sections to the survey, including:

• Strategy
• Emerging Technologies
• Practice Management
• Business Applications
• Document Processing
• Collaboration & Communication
• Infrastructure
• Computer Hardware & Operating Systems
• Security

While most of the sections are the same, the order has been reshuffled and there are one or two other changes.

For each section of the ILTA 2026 Technology Survey Results, there are multiple questions for which there are responses being tracked. For example, the Emerging Technologies section (which starts on page 47 of the PDF) has 35 questions (3 of which were “open-ended, write-in questions” and were not included in the report). For each question, there’s a graph of results followed by a table with a breakdown (typically) of responses by firm size.

For example, within the Emerging Technologies section, one of the questions asked was:

“Is Your Firm Using/Exploring Generative AI Tools (ChatGPT, CoCounsel, Henchman, Harvey, etc.)?”

The survey results then show the graph with results:

So, you can see that 94% of firms are using/exploring generative AI tools (14% more than last year). And that the range is from 85% of small firms (under 50 lawyers) to 100% of large firms (700 or more lawyers). Make sense?

Here are five notable teaser results from an eDiscovery, cyber and generative AI standpoint:

• 79% of respondents are currently using GenAI for creating initial drafts of documents – the top use case.
• 13% of respondents said they are already using Agentic AI on the business side or in practice
• 78% of respondents said that a formal policy is in place for the use of GenAI tools.
• 60% of respondents said they expect the legal profession to look significantly different in ten years because of AI advancement.
• The biggest area of concern about GenAI in the legal field is accuracy at 63%. But that dropped from 82% last year.
