In his latest post, Damir Kahvedžić of ProSearch asks if the picture above is AI and discusses current methods to identify AI content!
In his post titled (wait for it!) Is This AI? (available here), Damir discusses that there is a fun game on Reddit called IsThisAI? Users post images and videos of things they suspect of being artificially generated and the hive mind of Reddit decides whether it is or isn’t AI, as well as giving justification on one way or the other. Users point to mangled hands, blurry text, impossible lighting as well as other subjective criteria as evidence. The subreddit is a good bellwether on how far we have progressed from the nightmare inducing Will Smith Eats Spaghetti AI generated video. Things are getting better and AI much more difficult to spot.
Is the picture above AI? Answer below the disclaimer.
Now in effect, the EU AI Act mandates that AI generated content must be flagged as such. Failure to comply may result in hefty fines. Suddenly the game of IsThisAI has stopped being a game and now has real world consequences.
So, what are the two current methods to identify AI content that are emerging as the methods of choice for identification markers? How do they work, where do they stand on adoption and what are the challenges with each? Find out here, it’s just one click! This post is not AI! 😉
So, what do you think? Do we need AI models to identify their AI content? Please share any comments you might have or if you’d like to know more about a particular topic.

It is not AI. The photograph is titled “The Milkmaid” and the photographer is Jeroen Nieuwhuis, a rendering of the famous oil painting created by the Dutch Golden Age artist Johannes Vermeer around 1657 to 1658.
