Napkin AI Turns Text into Visual Graphics: Artificial Intelligence Trends

Last week at the Cowen Café, the panelists identified several interesting AI sites. One was Napkin AI, which turns text into visual graphics.

The Napkin AI site, available here, is currently in Beta. So, I decided to give it a try.

After going to the site and going through some initial questions (e.g., How are you planning to use Napkin?, How and where are you going to use Napkin visuals?, etc.), Napkin gave me the option to either paste text or generate text using AI.

I was playing around in ChatGPT with a topic related to data overload in eDiscovery, and it gave me five solutions to overcome data overload in eDiscovery. Here are the five solutions it provided:

  1. Develop a Data Governance Strategy: In-house legal departments should work closely with their IT teams to establish a comprehensive data governance policy. This policy should include clear guidelines on data retention, storage, and disposal to reduce the amount of irrelevant or redundant data that could complicate eDiscovery efforts. By ensuring data is well-organized and properly managed, legal teams can minimize the risk of data overload.
  2. Implement AI and Machine Learning Tools: AI-powered eDiscovery tools offer a more efficient way to analyze large datasets by automating document review and data categorization. Predictive coding and machine learning algorithms can identify patterns, detect relevance, and flag privileged documents with greater accuracy and speed than manual review processes. This allows legal teams to focus their efforts on high-value documents, reducing the overall time and cost of eDiscovery.
  3. Utilize Advanced Search and Filtering Techniques: Advanced search techniques, such as keyword filtering, metadata analysis, and Boolean queries, help narrow down the dataset, making it easier to locate relevant documents. These tools allow legal teams to apply precise filters to reduce the number of documents they need to review manually.
  4. Leverage Cloud-Based eDiscovery Platforms: Cloud-based eDiscovery solutions offer scalability and flexibility, enabling legal departments to handle vast amounts of data without the need for extensive in-house infrastructure. These platforms often provide enhanced collaboration features, allowing teams to work together across departments or jurisdictions more efficiently.
  5. Conduct Early Case Assessments (ECA): Early case assessment tools allow legal teams to evaluate the scope of data early in the litigation process. By identifying potential risks, costs, and strategies upfront, teams can better plan for eDiscovery and allocate resources more effectively.

I selected the paste text option and pasted the text in from ChatGPT. Once I did, the interface gave me a pop-up toolbar, where I had a selection of numerous visual graphic choices:

As I moved through the toolbar, Napkin AI displayed several different visual graphics within the document. Here are some examples of the graphics it created, using the text above:

Pretty cool! I can see how this could be very useful in adding graphics to a publication (such as a white paper) to illustrate complex concepts! While some may not all be professional quality, they certainly could generate ideas for graphics that a graphics person could take and make even better. Look for other potential examples soon!
